Over the course of 2 days, we took part in a Healthy Lifestyle Program. It consisted of a mixture of exercise, talks and nutritional education. An ex army ranger/Special Forces member Jeff Adams and a Spanish nutritionist Agata Hildago were in charge of it. On the first day, Jeff Adams told us about his time in the army and the Special Forces. He told us about how exercise and nutrition affect our lives. He used the Hunter Games as an example. Agata explained to us about the effect of too much sugar in the diet. She showed us a video of Jamie Oliver at TED Talks speaking about sugary diets in homes, schools and work places. Outside we were separated into teams of 9 or 10. We did tug of war, the eliminator and knockout.
On day 2, we did a shuttle run in the morning. In the shuttle run, we had to work as a team to transfer 120 counters from one bucket to the other in the best time and beat the opposition. Next we had a talk with Agata about diets. She told us that it was important that we get plenty of good fats in our diet to help build muscle, stay healthy and burn fat. Agata also showed us a video on the harmful chemical MSG which is added to many foods. She warned us to read the labels on the backs of food packaging so we know what we are putting into our bodies. Next we had a group relay and relay race. Jeff then showed us several different exercises to strengthen our body’s core (abs obliques etc) and got us to try them. After this, Agata showed us a video on how meditation could help people de-stress and relax. We then tried it for ourselves for a couple minutes. Awards were presented to the winning team and winning individuals. We took pictures of different posters that set out different things like healthy eating, sleeping and exercise. From this Healthy Lifestyle Program I learned a lot about nutritional and physical health and how I could become a healthier and happier person.
