Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th October
Due to Hurricane Ophelia, we had no school. Wednesday 18th October Today in Music, we auditioned for parts in All Shook Up. We sang different songs from the medley Ms Coyle put together for the Variety Show, including Jailhouse Rock. In English, we wrote a diary entry by Minny at the beginning of class. The diary entry was based on the first half of chapter 3, showing Minny's feelings towards Miss Celia at their first meeting for Minny's job interview. After we had completed this, we read the second half of chapter 3. In the second half, we learned a bit about Minny's upbringing and about Minny's first day working for Miss Celia. In Religion, we did group work on the issue of poverty. We were given a number and had to decide whether to write a short story, a newspaper article, a radio documentary, a poem or a TV report. My group did a Newspaper Report on how it is believed that friendships are decided on the clothes that you buy. We had to e-mail the finished product to Ms Dunne when it was finished. In Maths, we did a riddle based on a social dancing group. It was hard but we did it in groups to see if we could figure it out for the next class. In Business, we started a booklet on People in Business. We learned about the different important people in a business and what their roles are. We were meant to have a test today, however it was rescheduled to Wednesday 8th November. In IT, Mr Molamphy taught us how to share documents with people if we had to do group work. We then worked on our TY portfolios. We had a free class today for EU Studies. In Irish, wrote mini stories in groups and on our own by using drawings depicting different scenes. We then had to finish this activity for homework. THURSDAY 19TH OCTOBER In Tutor, we handed up our forms for the Bank of Ireland Academy trip to NUIG and filled out the application for it. In Home Ec, we made Chicken Curry and rice. It was very nice and my group and I enjoyed making it. In Religion, we did an exercise based on Mary Untier of Knots. We threw a ball of wool to a person who then had to tie a knot around their finger and say one thing that causes anxiety or stress in one's life. We then untied these knots to signify that the stress and anxiety is only temporary. In Irish, the girls went to the music room with Ms Heartnet to work on choreography and singing for the Variety Show. The boys stayed with Ms Coyle to audition for the part of Chad. In Enterprise, we worked on our TY portfolios. We were meant to have a test, however it had been rescheduled for the week we come back. In English, we read chapter 4 and started our summaries and reflective notes on it. In Science, we helped Ms Barry clean the lab. Eoin, Vincent and I did a stock take of all the chemicals in the stock room for experiments. We also cleaned the prep room. FRIDAY 20TH OCTOBER Today in Irish, we went to the computer room and signed up to the language teaching app, Duolingo. We did a series of tests to see what level of Irish we are at and then proceeded to explore the site itself. There were a lot of tests that were beneficial to me for learning spellings, grammar and new words. In Science, it was Ms Barry's last day teaching us. For a final experiment, she helped us set one up that isolated DNA from a kiwi. To do this, we had cut the kiwi into small pieces and put it into a graduated cylinder. We then had to add 3g of salt, 10ml of washing up liquid and 100ml of water and using coffee filter paper, filter out the kiwi pieces and protein. Adding a small amount of Ethanol, we would be able to see long white strings of DNA in between the bubbles. In Maths, we finished the social dancing question and handed it up to Mr Enright to correct. In Music, we learned who got the lead roles in the Grease and All Shook Up. I got the role of Natalie. Ms Coyle gave all the leads a script and CD to learn for when we come back after our Work Experience and Mid Term. In English, we read half of chapter 5 of The Help and handed our copies up to Ms Hough to correct over the Mid Term.

MONDAY 9TH OCTOBER
Today in PE, we did the Bleep Test. This is where you run up and down the gym to the sound of a beep. I got to Round 6,2. Ms Barry also taught us about the 7 Fundamental Movements of CSPE. They are Agility, Balance, Running, Co-ordination, Throwing, Catching and Jumping. In Enterprise, Ms Hayes went through Markets and Marketing. She also told us that we have a test next week on everything we've done so far. In Drama, we practiced Mr Coughlan's song and the movements to it. We are slowly getting better at it. In French, we did 2 comprehensions from our booklet and wrote down any vocab we didn't know. In Music, we learned a new chord called Am (A Minor). This brings our total of chords learned to 3: C F and Am. We also practiced Jailhouse Rock and Can't Help Falling In Love With You. In Maths, we did a water charges problem. It was a tricky and confusing problem but I did as much as I knew how to. In Irish, we did a group exercise. We had to speak for 2 minutes on our school and uniform. TUESDAY 10TH OCTOBER Today in Tutor, Ms Murtagh allowed us to work on our TY Portfolios. In Constructions, we recapped on how to construct a memo block/polygon on Solid Works. In Drama, we started a song called Little List based on the song from the musical The Hot Mikado. In Guidance, we did a personality quiz on careers portal and filled out a sheet on it. In English, we read the first half of chapter 2 of The Help. In this chapter, we got a better understanding on white mothers in 50s America. We also saw the relationship between Mae Mobley and Aibileen. In Art, I made my clay vase. It has leaf, lace and rubber designs on it. WEDNESDAY 11TH OCTOBER Today in Music, we began to play 'I'm Yours' by Jason Mraz on the ukuleles. We also practiced Jailhouse Rock and Can't Help Falling In Love With You. In English, we had no class. However Ms Hough left us work. We had to read the second half of chapter 2 and do a reflective note and summary on it. We didn't have a Religion class as a guest speaker from Saint Vincent de Paul, called Paddy, came to talk to us. He spoke to us about his time travelling around the world helping people and showed us a couple of project ideas that we could do. In Maths, we finished the water charges problem from the last class and handed it up to Mr Enright to correct. In Business, we recapped on what we did in the last class. Ms Hayes told us that we have a test next week. In IT, Mr Molamphy spent the class helping us get our school e-mails working. In EU Studies, we had a free class as Ms O'Callaghan was out. In Irish, we read a comprehension on the Gaeltacht and highlighted any words that we didn't know. For homework, we had to do questions on the piece and look up 10 of the highlighted words. THURSDAY 12TH OCTOBER Today in Tutor, we went to Ms Dunne's Religion class to watch a Team Hope video on the importance of the Shoebox Appeal. People were chosen from the class to go to the other year groups to give them leaflets on it and ask them to bring in a shoebox. In Home Ec, we cooked Thai Chicken Cakes. In Religon, Ms Dunne spoke to us about the different organizations that she has worked for since she was 19. One trip that stood out to me, was when she went to Thailand to work with prostitutes. I admire her for the work she has done. In Irish, we went to the computer room to look up the words that we didn't know from the comprehension. In Enterprise, we looked up the Student Enterprise Awards website and sorted out a couple of project details in our groups. In English, we finished the chapter with Ms Hough and corrected the work we did. In Science, we looked at Leaving Cert genetics. Ms Barry gave us some words to research for homework. FRIDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER Today in Irish, we sketched pictures relating to the Gaeltacht a long time ago. We then described the pictures to the class. In Science, we had a free class as Ms Barry was out. In Maths, we finished the problem that Mr Enright gave us. We had no Music or English class because Alan Devine came in to hear our speeches. My speech was about the role of women in WW2. Everyone's speech was very interest and we became more confident talking in front of everyone. MONDAY 2ND OCTOBER
Due to a Junior Cert Teacher Training Day, we had no school today. TUESDAY 3RD OCTOBER Today in Tutor, we organised who would be in charge of the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal. The class voted and Therese Keane and I were voted as leaders. With the help of our classmates, we organised a meeting for Thursday at lunchtime. In Constructions, we finished our polygon/memo block on Solid Works. In Drama, we went to the gym to practice one of Mr. Coughlan's songs and the actions that he had put together. In Guidance, we organised a letter that we had to send off to our supervisor for our work experience about reviews and insurance. In English as a class, we talked about the background to The Help by Kathryn Stockett. In triple Art, we made bowls out of clay. To make the bowl, we had to make spirals, mash them and smooth them over for a fine finish. We did this inside another bowl covered in cling film. Next week I will be making a clay vase. WEDNESDAY 4TH OCTOBER In Music, we learned how to tune and play the ukuleles. The first two chords we learned were C and F. In English, we read the first chapter of The Help. We met one of the main characters, Aibileen, a black maid working for a white family. She is raising a 2 year old girl called Mae Mobley Leefolt and juggling the housework at the same time. For homework, we have to do a summary and a reflective note. In Religion, we did a series of exercises to learn about how unequal the world is. In Maths, we finished our report on Seacláid Ltd. In Business, Ms Hayes allowed us to work on our Portfolios. In IT, Mr Molamphy showed us a couple tricks for our Weebly website. In EU Studies, we learned more about the EEC from a 3 page booklet that Ms O'Callaghan gave us. As a class, we brainstormed the main points on the board. In Irish, we had a quiz in groups to see how many words from our oral we could remember. THURSDAY 5TH OCTOBER We had no class due to the Public Speaking Workshop run by Alan Devine. To build up our confidence, we played different games as a group and practiced talking in front of the class. These games included The Elminator (carrying out a selection of dance moves to the nusery rhyme Old King Cole), picking jokes out of a hat and saying them to the class, eye contact game (holding eye contact with a person without telling them verbally that you're looking at them) and the hand gesture activity (pretending to be a robot, copy the robot's hand gestures, hold eye contact with people in the class and answer Alan's questions all at the same time). Alan talked to us about how a speech is written and how it can be delivered. He gave us examples of different speeches that students in schools he had visited had given. Next Friday, Alan will be returning to the school to listen to our own speeches. FRIDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER Today it was back to class. In Irish, we had another vocabulary quiz to see what phrases we knew. We had a free Science today as Ms Barry was out. In Maths, we tried to figure out Einstein's Riddle which he created as a young boy. A couple of groups figured it out but unfortunately my group was unable to. In Music, we recapped on our ukulele chords C and F. We also started learning another Elvis song called 'I Can't Help Falling In Love With You'. We had no English class today as Ms Hough was at a camogie match. MONDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER
Today in PE, we went to the computer room again. The BT Young Scientist people put the finishing touches to their proposals and submitted them while the rest of the class did our TY portfolios. In Enterprise, we went over the rules and regulations of the Mini Company. We then went into our groups and talked about how to approach our projects. In Drama, we casted the play 'Philadelphia Here I Come' for the Variety Show. To cast it, Mr Coughlan auditioned us in our groups and then blended our different groups together to test everyone's chemistry when acting together. Rose, Stephen, Mikey and Eoin Gallagher got the parts. In French, we went through 2 comprehensions from our booklet and took down any new vocab. In Music, we played a game to help us learn our different rhythms. By listening to a musical sentence/phrase, we had to match the rhythm of it with the sheets in front of us. In Maths, we took notes on how Analytics can improve the business model. In Irish, we wrote up a report on Delphi. We then finished it for homework. TUESDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER Today we had no Tutor and missed one class of Constructions as we were involved in a Dance Workshop with Angela Dedik. For 2 classes, Angela taught us a series of dance moves to the Elvis hit, Jailhouse Rock. It was great fun and we're hoping that Angela comes back again. In the second class of Constructions, we learned to construct a polygon/memo block on Solid Works. In Drama, we did a series of acting exercises to learn how to get into character. We had no Guidance English class today as we were taking part in a Millinery Workshop with hat designer Suzie Mahony. It was a very interesting experience and we all took a lot from it. We learned to sew and the art of millinery. We found our inner artists and made some nice hats. We missed the first class of Art due to the Millinery workshop. For the second two classes, we went to the castle gardens to sketch the plants there. WEDNESDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER Today in Music, we learned about dictation and how to do it. Dictation in music is when you listen to some music and compose the rhythm and the melody. In English, we learned about Non Literacy Texts by watching videos and answering questions on them. We had a free Religion today as Ms Dunne was out. In Maths, we started Module 4 of Analytics. This Module explains how Analytics can be used effectively in a business. In Business, Ms Hayes gave us a booklet on entrepreneurial skills. We learned about how Richard Branson used his entrepreneurial skills to spot a gap in the business sector and how he started his first business in a public phone box. In IT, Mr Molamphy went over how to use Weebly with us. In EU Studies, we learned about how and why the European Union (or EEC as it was formerly known as) was set up. We learned that after WW2, the countries involved decided to work together to prevent war happening again and so the EEC was born. In Irish, we learned questions and answers that would be on our Leaving Cert oral and our Fáinne exam. THURSDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER Today in Tutor, we learned what we would be doing over the next couple of weeks. Ms Murtagh also gave us our locker numbers and combinations and showed us how to open them. In Home Ec, Ms Lohan assigned us our cooking groups, gave us our cooking booklets and outlined what we would be doing this year. We then cooked pancakes. In Religion, we had a walking debate on different issues affecting Ireland and the world. We shared our views on each subject and learned what other people in the class thought. In Irish, we practiced answering questions on ourselves and our areas. In Enterprise, we brainstormed ideas in our groups on what we could base our Mini Company projects on. In English, we did Non Literacy Texts and answered questions on them. Today we watched videos on the All Ireland Hurling Finals. We had no Science class today as Ms Barry wasn't in. FRIDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER Today in Irish, we a listening comprehension to ease us into the Leaving Cert syllabus and give us an example of an oral exam. We had no Science class today as Ms Barry was out today. In Maths, using our knowledge on Analytics we wrote up a report on a business called Seacláid Ltd. In Music, we began learning Jailhouse Rock. We also showed Ms Coyle some of the dance moves that Angela taught us. In English, we researched the background and storyline of the novel, The Help by Kathryn Stockett. This was so that we would understand it better when we start reading it next week. MONDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER
In PE today, we went to the computer room. Those who had to finish and then submit their BT Young Scientist proposals did so. The rest of the class did their TY Portfolios. In Enterprise, we got sheets on what we could do for the Mini Company. These sheets included past projects and got a booklet introducing the Mini Company. For this class, Ms Hayes outlined all the information we needed. In Drama, Mr Coughlan talked to us about the Gaisce Award. He talked us through the Gaisce application and what we can do for each category. He also talked to us about what we have to do. He did all this by using a powerpoint. We then went through a scene from the Irish play Philadelphia Here I Come by Brian Friel which was about a young Irish man called Gar O'Donnell who is planning on going to Philadelphia to start a new life. Our French and English class was swapped today. We now have French on a Monday instead of a Tuesday. Ms Kineen gave us a booklet about Transition Year. To ease us in, we translated a small comprehension, took down any new vocab and did a couple of questions. In Music, we learned about different rhythms. How we learned it was: Tea = crotchet = 1 beat Coffee = quaver = 1 beat Cappuccino = semi quaver = 1 beat Milk = minim = 2 beats We did some clapping exercises including these beats. In Maths, BT Young Scientist people finished their proposals and the rest of us did our portfolios and talked among ourselves. In Irish, we watched another short film called 'Yu Ming is Ainm Dom'. It was about a young Chinese man who grew tired of his life in China as a shopkeeper. After doing some research he decided to learn irish and live in Ireland. He became fluent and moved. However the people in Dublin didn’t understand him and he found it hard to adjust to the life. He went to a pub asking for work but they didn’t understand him except for one old man. He explained to Yu Ming that only special areas in Ireland called Gaeltacht areas speak Irish now. A couple weeks later, Yu Ming had moved out to Connemara. As we were watching the film, we answered 8 questions. We then talked about themes of the film such as the differences in irish and Chinese cultures. TUESDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER I wasn't in today. However I caught up on everything and got the homework that was given. In Tutor, Ms Murtagh spoke to the class on what to bring to Delphi tomorrow. She also spoke to us about what we would be doing in Delphi. In Constructions, we had no class as Mr Fallon was at a hurling match. In Drama, we took notes on different musicals to see how they are created and structured. In Guidance, we took our careers test again to examine our results. We had no English class due to the annual school mass. In Art, Ms Lawne took the class down to the castle to draw the different leaves and plants. This gave the class a chance to practice their sketching and nature drawing skills. WEDNESDAY 20TH, THURSDAY 21ST AND FRIDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER Over the course of 2 days, we completed part 1 of our Gaisce and became closer as a group. We learned new skills and became more confident. Some of us also faced our fears head on. This all happened at Delphi Adventure Centre in Connemara. On the first day at Delphi, we did the high ropes. I found it a bit scary at first as I have a fear of heights. However after some coaxing from the supervisors there, I gave it a go and quite enjoyed the adrenaline rush. I believe doing this exercise benefited me as I'm not as scared as Iwas. After dinner, we went for a short walk into the forest located just down the track from Delphi Adventure Centre. We explored some man-made tunnels and did different activities to test our teamwork skills. On the second day, we did our Gaisce walk in the mountains. This lasted 5 and a half hours but overall it was very enjoyable. On the walk, we experienced many amazing views and saws many different plants and animals. When we arrived back at the Centre after a long days trek, we had dinner and were brought to a campfire for songs around the fire. On the final day, we went surfing. It was great fun, especially trying to stand up on the surfboard. MONDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER
Today in PE today, we learned how to serve and how we should stand when serving in tennis. We also learned how the point system worked. Our knowledge of the courts from last week was important for these skills. To practice, we played against each other in a fun tennis game to see who could get to 10 first. In Enterprise, we read through all the notes Ms Hayes gave us last week. This helped us to recap on what we learned. For those who weren't in the last class, we went over what the Mini Company was. We missed the first class of Drama today as members of the Galway Senior and Minor teams came to show us the Liam McCartney cup and the Irish Press Cup. The team members spoke to us and gave us inspiration to follow through with our dreams and work hard. For the second class of Drama, we acted out a scene from the hit show D'Unbelievables which starred Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny in groups. It was very funny and we really enjoyed. In English, we watched a video of Martin Luther King Jr delivering his 'I Have a Dream' speech. The video showed us how effectively his words and descriptive language affected the African American people and the white people at the time. In Music, we sang a song by John Meyer for the first half of the class. For the second half. we got into our groups and what we discussed our project research for Wednesday. In Maths, we had a free class as Mr Enright wasn't in. In this free class, I did some of my homework and learned the notes from my Enterprise class. In Irish, we analysed how the music used in 'Clare sa Spéir' affected the audience and complimented each scene. TUESDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER In Tutor today, Ms Murtagh gave us our TY Portfolio Guidelines. These guidelines will help us throughout the year to write up what we do in class, on trip and talks and on our TY year in general. In Constructions, we recapped on what we did last week. We reconstructed our cubes and for those of us who weren't sure last week, Mr Fallon showed us how to put the hole in the top of the cube. We did all this on the computer program, Solid Works. For the second class, I wasn't present as I was helping Ms Lawne hang up artwork around the school for the Shorelines Art Festival, which was taking place around the school during the week. In Drama, the TY A's joined us to talk about our ideas for the Variety Show. We put our ideas forward and also listened to Mr Coughlan's own ideas and how he would approach doing it. Near the end of the class, we came to an agreement and began to talk through a plan. We also acted out a scene from a play called 'Philadelphia Here I Come' in groups. In Guidance, we went to the computer room and registered on Careers Portal. We then did a careers test and learned what we would be best suited for based on the answers we gave. Two careers that came up after I did my test was a masseuse and a midwife. In French, we had no class as we have no teacher or classroom. For the triple Art today, we helped Ms Lawne hang artwork around the school for the Shorelines Art Festival that will be taking place in the school during the week. WEDNESDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER In Music today, we started a song called 'Imagine' by John Lennon, a former Beatles member who was assassinated in 1980. It painted a beautiful picture of equality for everyone without any war or problems in the world. In English, we read Éamonn de Velera's 'The Ireland We Dreamed Of' speech. By reading it, we learned more about speech writing and the effects of descriptive language on people. For homework, Ms Hough gave us question 1,2 and 5. In Religion, we had a debate on refugees in Ireland and the different experiences they have. We learned that a lot of refugees have to wait over 10 years for asylum and even then they may not even be accepted. We also learned about the awful conditions they live in. In Business, Ms Hayes let us go to the computer room to do our TY portfolios. In IT Mr Molamphy taught us how to use Weebly, the website that we would be creating our TY portfolios on. He also explained how to get into our school e-mails and why these e-mails would be important to us this year. In European Studies, Ms O’Callaghan showed us a series of competitions that we can enter to do with the European Union. One prize is a trip for the whole TY class to the European Parliament in Strasbourg. She asked us to keep an eye out for when we could enter it. She also told us about a video competition on the European Union itself. Eoin Gallagher and I volunteered to participate. As we were getting our Junior Cert Results today, we had no Irish class. THURSDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER Today we went to Knock for our TY St. Vincent de Paul retreat. We listened to many guest speakers, including Father Peter McVerry and Joanne O'Riordan. We learned a lot of new things from them that would help us in the future to become better people. We also learned a communication aspect at this retreat as we had to communicate with our fellow group members. Overall the retreat was very interesting. Overall, I learned a lot from what the speakers said and took a lot from them. For example, I learned about how transport in Ireland is changing dramatically. I also learned that homeless people come from all parts of society and for different reasons. FRIDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER In Irish today, we watched the short film 'Clare sa Spéir' again and analysed it. We also took notes. In Science, I had to find a new project to do as my group decided they didn't want to take part in the BT Young Scientist. However I had to have my 1 page proposal in for Monday and finding a new project that would be good enough was difficult in the given time frame. So after some consideration, I told Ms Barry that I would be unable to participate. In Maths, we finished correcting work from the last day and started Module 2 of Analytics. In Music, we practiced songs from Grease for the school Variety show with some of the Leaving Certs who took part. These songs included 'Grease Lightening' and 'Hand Jive'. In English, we had no class as Ms Hough was out. MONDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER
In P.E today we did exercises for tennis using ladders, balance improvement and hurdles. We learned how to do the forehand, ready position and how the courts work. In Enterprise, we got notes on Introducing Business, Enterprise&Entrepreneurs and Teamwork from Ms Hayes. We read through the first 2 pages with her and then learned about the Mini Company. In the Mini Company, we set up our own mini business and sell our products/service to make a profit. We also represent the school in competitions. In Drama, we took notes on Communication in drama and poetry for the first of the two classes. In the second class we did dramatic exercises and games. In English, Ms Hough recapped on the Rosa Parks story and we explored Racism in more depth. For homework we got questions on Martin Luther King Jr. We welcomed Neil Wilson and Garda Paddy Wynn to the school today. They were talking to us about the importance of staying safe on Junior Cert Night. In Maths, we finished Module 1 of Analytics. We learned about the business model and how Analytics can be used in the running of businesses. In Irish, we worked in pairs to match English words with their Irish translation. These words had to do with the GAA All Ireland Minor Final between Galway and Cork on Sunday. We then had to put these words into sentences and split the list in half with our partner. While listening to the match we had to make a tally of the words we could hear. TUESDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER In Tutor this morning, Ms Murtagh told us about a couple activities that would be happening in the coming weeks such as our retreat to Knock. She also talked to us about helping out in Saint Dympnas. I signed up to do so. In Constructions, we met our teacher Mr Fallon. He taught us how to construct a cube and how to put a hole in that cube using a computer app called Solid Works. In Drama, we continued with our dramatic exercises and games with Mr Coughlan. In Guidance, we met Ms Lyons. She gave us an overview of what we would be doing this year. She also gave us sheets on career choice to guide us on our subjects for 5th year. For French, as we had assigned teacher or classroom on our timetable, we sat in the social area. For the first class of Art, we made our Art folders and Ms Lawne allowed us to draw our first sketch. I drew a cube. For the second and third class, we went into town and were placed in different areas to sketch buildings and scenes. Aisling, Courtney and I went to the old graveyard across from the bank and drew the headstones there. WEDNESDAY 6TH AND THURSDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER For these two days, we were involved in The Healthy Lifestyle Program. It consisted of a mixture of talks, exercises, games and nutritional education. It was run by Jeff Adams, an ex Special Forces Ranger and Spanish-born Agata Hildago. We learned a lot about nutrition and general health by doing this program. We also learned life skills that will lead us to healthier and happier lives. FRIDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER Today we were back in class. In Irish, we watched a short film called Clare sa Spéir as part of our Movie Studies course. It was about an Irish mother called Clare who wanted to break the world record for living in a tree. She did this to prove to her family that she wasn't just a mother and a wife. In doing this, her husband came to the realization that he wasn't helping out around the house enough and wasn't spending much time with his children as much as he should. Clare spent 32 days in the tree, thinking that she had beaten the world record of 31 days. However the world record turned out to be 31 years not 31 days. This didn't matter however because the family had learned not to regret what Clare did for them on a daily basis. While watching the film we had to answer 8 questions. In Science, we got into groups and organised our 1 page proposal. After tweaking a couple of things, Ms Barry allowed us to register online for the BT Young Scientist. In Maths, we started Module 2 of Analytics. In Music, we got into groups to focus on 1 aspect of music genres as part of our Mid Term Project. I am in a group with Rose, Chloe and Courtney. We are doing our project on Irish Country Music. We listed all the singers we knew and brainstormed our ideas. In English today, we focused on Martin Luther King Jr's speech 'I Have a Dream'. We got questions on it for homework. In class, we discussed the language used and the imagery in the speech. THURSDAY 31ST SEPTEMBER
For the first 3 of our classes, Ms Murtagh spoke to us to outline our TY calendar and the things we would be doing this year. She also gave us a sheet on how to use the new locks for our lockers. However we didn't get our lockers today. In our Religion class we met the new chaplain, Ms Dunne. We learned a useless thing and a useful things about everyone in the class, including Ms Dunne as part of an introductory exercise. We also talked about our views on religion. In Art, had a double free class with Ms Lawne. While in Room M, Mr Long asked us to write 5 changes in us for the next year and to elaborate these points. In Science, Ms Keena outlined our TY syllabus, assigned our seats and groups and allowed us to brainstorm our ideas for the BT Young Scientist. In EU Studies we chose a country to research and presented our findings to the class. In Music, we met the new Music teacher, Ms Coyle. We brainstormed ideas for the school show in groups to see how we could encourage people to take part and also to make it interesting for the audience. FRIDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER Today we were given our permanent timetable however some changes may be made in the coming weeks. In Irish, we met our teacher, Ms Heartnet. We did some questions that would be on our oral exam for Leaving Cert. In Science, we had a teacher change. We now have Ms Barry. In the class we got into groups and brainstormed new ideas for the BT Young Scientist. In Maths, we learned the first objective of Module 1 of Analytics. In Music, we worked on a song by the rock band, Guns 'N Roses called Sweet Child of Mine. We had a competition between the boys and the girls to see who were the loudest and best singing groups. In English, we met our English teacher, Ms Hough. As a background to the novel, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, we learned about the story of Rosa Parks. |
