On the 12th and 13th of March, we welcomed Séan and Darragh to the school. They were giving us a 2 day song writing workshop. On the first day, we went around the room giving our favourite song to the boys. We then voted as a class on the ones we all enjoyed to listen too and brought it down to the final 3. These would be the songs that we would break down and analyse for our own song. We analysed their style, story, lyric pattern and tempo(speed). We then broke into groups and using newspapers we took lines from articles and placed these lines into the lyric pattern of Gavin James and Alan Walker's hit song 'Tired'.
On the second day, learned about the science of sound and watched videos on frequency and sound production.Sean taught us about the importance of layering sound using software and showed us how music is produced bit by bit during recordings.During this time, Darragh brought people out to sing and we learned that during voice recordings, the song is recorded a line or two at a time. Harmony is usually the last to be added and echos are recorded once and then added to each place using a laptop. I found the whole experience very interesting. I learned a lot about music that I didn't before. I found the voice and sound recording the most interesting as it was like we were in our own little recording studio. Listening back to what we had recorded was the best part as we could hear our song coming together. I am very excited to hear what the finished product sounds like when it is sent to Ms Coyle and Ms Murtagh and how our parents will react at the Graduation night. I would highly recommend this to the TY's next year as it is a very worthwhile experience and you can learn a lot about music. |
