After we had completed this, we read the second half of chapter 3. In the second half, we learned a bit about Minny's upbringing and about Minny's first day working for Miss Celia. In Religion, we did group work on the issue of poverty. We were given a number and had to decide whether to write a short story, a newspaper article, a radio documentary, a poem or a TV report. For a final experiment, she helped us set one up that isolated DNA from a kiwi. To do this, we had cut the kiwi into small pieces and put it into a graduated cylinder. We then had to add 3g of salt, 10ml of washing up liquid and 100ml of water and using coffee filter paper, filter out the kiwi pieces and protein. Adding a small amount of Ethanol, we would be able to see long white strings of DNA in between the bubbles.
